Hello beauty lovers!
Salon Hygiene 101: What Every Client and Future Therapist Should Know
When it comes to beauty treatments, we all love a stunning set of nails, glowing skin, or freshly laminated brows—but beneath every amazing result should be one non-negotiable standard: cleanliness.
Whether you're a client visiting a salon, a model at a training academy, or a student learning the ropes, it’s important to understand what good hygiene looks like—and why it matters.
At Limisha Nails and Beauty Training, we teach our learners that hygiene isn’t just a lesson—it’s a mindset. And it’s something that clients should be aware of too when choosing who to trust with their beauty treatments.
Why Hygiene Should Matter to Everyone
We’re not just talking about wiping down a surface or washing hands once in a while. Poor hygiene can lead to:
- Infections (bacterial, fungal, viral)
- Cross-contamination between clients
- Skin irritation and allergic reactions
- Long-term damage to the therapist’s reputation
Whether you're receiving a treatment or giving one, these risks are serious. That’s why good hygiene should never be optional—it should be standard.
What to Look For in a Safe and Professional Salon
Before booking a treatment anywhere, ask yourself:
✔️ Are the tools being sanitised between clients?
✔️ Is fresh couch roll or clean towels being used?
✔️ Are disposables (like nail files, waxing spatulas, mascara wands) being thrown away after use?
✔️ Is the therapist washing their hands or wearing gloves when needed?
✔️ Does the space look tidy, clean, and well-maintained?
If you’re unsure or feel uncomfortable, ask questions—any professional worth trusting will welcome your interest and explain their hygiene process confidently.
⯑ Top Tip: Be cautious of places that feel rushed, messy, or too focused on price over professionalism. Cheap treatments aren’t worth it if corners are being cut on safety.
What We Teach Future Beauty Therapists
At Limisha, we’re proud to train our students not just in technique—but in safe, professional standards that prepare them for the real world.
Every learner is taught how to:
- Clean and sanitise their tools properly
- Understand the difference between cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilising
- Maintain a clean and calm treatment area
- Work hygienically with confidence on models and future clients
This isn’t just for show—it’s to build long-term habits that protect them, their clients, and their reputation in the industry.

A Message to Clients, Models, and Students Alike
Whether you’re walking into a local salon, visiting a training academy, or starting your first course—cleanliness matters.
Not just for the look of the space, but for your safety, comfort, and peace of mind.
We believe in setting the standard, not just teaching it. And we encourage all beauty professionals—past, present and future—to hold themselves accountable to that same high standard, wherever they are in their journey.
Because true beauty starts with trust. ⯑

Everything You Need to Know About Hand and Spray Tanning
Tanning is a popular beauty treatment that gives your skin a golden glow, whether for a special occasion or just to boost your confidence. There are various ways to achieve that sun-kissed look, but two of the most common methods are hand tanning and spray tanning. Both have their benefits, and it’s essential to understand how each works and how you can make the most of them.
What is Hand Tanning?
Hand tanning, also known as manual tanning or self-tanning, involves applying tanning products (typically lotions, mousses, or oils) directly to the skin using your hands or an applicator. This technique allows for precise control over how much product you apply and the areas you want to tan.
Benefits of Hand Tanning:
- Customisable: Since you apply the product yourself, you can control the depth of the tan and target specific areas, such as your face or legs.
- Affordable: Many hand tanning products are cost-effective and available for at-home use, making it an easy option for those on a budget.
- Flexibility: You can apply a gradual tan or opt for a more intense, instant tan depending on the product.
- Privacy: You have the convenience of tanning in the comfort of your own home, without the need for an appointment.
Tips for Perfect Hand Tanning:
- Exfoliate First: For a smooth, even tan, always exfoliate your skin before applying any tanning product. This removes dead skin cells and helps the product apply evenly.
- Use Gloves or a Mitt: To avoid staining your hands, use a self-tanning mitt or disposable gloves.
- Blend Well: Start applying from your legs upwards and work in circular motions to avoid streaks. Don’t forget to blend the product into areas like your elbows, knees, and wrists where skin is often drier.
- Wait to Dry: Allow the product to dry before dressing to avoid streaks or smudging.
What is Spray Tanning?
Spray tanning involves applying a fine mist of tanning solution to the skin using an airbrush machine or spray booth. This method is typically done in a salon by a professional, although at-home spray tanning kits are available for DIY enthusiasts.
Benefits of Spray Tanning:
- Quick and Efficient: A full-body spray tan typically takes around 10–15 minutes, making it a quick solution for those with a busy schedule.
- Even Coverage: Professionals are trained to provide even, flawless coverage, so you don’t have to worry about patchy spots or streaks.
- Natural-Looking Tan: Spray tanning solutions are formulated to mimic the natural appearance of a tan and provide a more even colour across your body.
- Customisable Shades: Most spray tan providers offer a variety of shades, allowing you to choose a light, medium, or dark tan depending on your preferences.
Tips for Spray Tanning:
- Exfoliate Beforehand: Just like hand tanning, exfoliating before a spray tan ensures that the solution adheres evenly to your skin and lasts longer.
- Wear Loose Clothing: After your spray tan, wear loose, dark clothing to avoid rubbing the tan off or staining your clothes.
- Avoid Water and Sweat: For the first 6–8 hours, avoid water and heavy sweating, as this can affect the development of your tan.
- Moisturise: Keeping your skin moisturised will help maintain your tan and prevent it from fading unevenly.
Hand Tanning vs. Spray Tanning: Which is Right for You?
Both methods are excellent for achieving a glowing tan without the harmful effects of UV rays, but there are some key differences to consider when choosing between hand tanning and spray tanning:
- Time: Spray tanning is faster, especially if you opt for a salon treatment, while hand tanning requires more time and attention to detail.
- Control: Hand tanning gives you more control over the application, but it also requires more effort to ensure an even result. Spray tanning, on the other hand, is applied by a professional or with a machine, ensuring more even coverage.
- Cost: Hand tanning products are typically more affordable, while spray tanning can be pricier, especially if done at a salon.
- Longevity: Spray tans tend to last around 7-10 days, while hand tans may last a little longer depending on the product used and aftercare.
Conclusion: Which One Should You Choose?
Both hand tanning and spray tanning have their advantages, so your choice depends on your personal preferences and circumstances. If you’re looking for a quick, flawless tan and don’t mind spending a little extra, spray tanning is the way to go. However, if you prefer more control and want to do it yourself, hand tanning might be the better option.
Whichever method you choose, remember to exfoliate and moisturise regularly for the best results. And, of course, always choose a high-quality product to ensure a natural, streak-free glow!

Hello skincare enthusiasts.
Using Eve Taylor products
For years, rosacea was misunderstood and often mistaken for acne, even being labeled “acne rosacea.” Today, however, we know that rosacea is a distinct, progressive vascular condition characterised by visible signs like persistent redness, a blushing effect, red bumps (papules and pustules), dilated blood vessels, and thickened skin texture. These symptoms tend to cycle between flare-ups and periods of remission.
Although the exact cause of rosacea remains unclear, certain triggers are known to provoke flare-ups, varying widely between individuals. While there isn’t a cure for rosacea, salon treatments can help many clients effectively manage it. Here, we explore key approaches to reduce and calm rosacea symptoms.
Identifying and Managing Rosacea Triggers
One of the first and most essential steps in controlling rosacea is identifying the unique factors that trigger a client’s flare-ups. Common triggers include lifestyle and environmental factors, such as:
- Emotional stress
- Extreme temperatures
- Physical activity
- Consumption of alcohol, caffeine, or spicy foods
- Certain fruits, vegetables, and dairy products
- Hormonal changes, such as menopause
- Use of specific cosmetic products
To assist in pinpointing these triggers, we encourage our clients to keep a daily log of their food, drinks, and activities, and to note any instances of skin irritation or redness. After several weeks, this diary can be reviewed to identify patterns; foods or activities that coincide with flare-up days may indicate a potential trigger. Once identified, clients can experiment with reducing or eliminating these triggers to see if symptoms improve.
Implementing Soothing and Calming Product Regimens
A calming skincare routine focused on anti-inflammatory ingredients is crucial for rosacea-prone skin. Some key recommendations include:
- Gentle Cleansing and Hydration: Use cleansers, toners, and moisturisers formulated to reduce redness and inflammation. A great example is Eve Taylor London’s Ultra Soothing range, which features a gentle oatmeal-based cleanser enriched with soothing ingredients like green tea and sunflower oil. This cleanser can also double as a calming mini-mask for unexpected flare-ups.
- Gentle Exfoliation: Avoid abrasive scrubs that may further irritate sensitive skin. Instead, opt for enzyme-based exfoliants, such as Eve Taylor London’s Micro-fine Daily Exfoliant. This type of exfoliant gently removes dead skin cells without using friction, making it an ideal choice for delicate, rosacea-prone skin.
- Specialised Salon Treatments: Offering a soothing facial treatment like Eve Taylor London’s Skin Rescue Facial can provide clients with long-lasting benefits. The treatment features a Colloidal Oatmeal Masque, which is known for its ability to strengthen the skin’s barrier function and provide powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Regular, gentle salon treatments like this can help reduce redness and support skin resilience over time.
Adopting a “Less is More” Approach
When dealing with rosacea, less truly is more. Using too many products or engaging in aggressive skincare routines can overwhelm sensitive skin, often leading to further irritation. Instead, encourage clients to embrace a minimalist approach to their skincare:
- Selectivity in Products: Focus on a few targeted products that provide essential benefits without adding unnecessary formulations that might complicate or aggravate the skin’s condition.
- Gentle Techniques: Use cool water and shorten the skincare routine during flare-ups, performing gentle movements rather than vigorous rubbing or massaging. When drying the skin, suggest a soft patting motion with a soft towel to avoid irritation.
- Accepting the Natural Cycle: Emphasize to clients that flare-ups are a natural part of managing rosacea. Instead of reacting with multiple products during a flare-up, use a single calming product and take the time to consider potential triggers or environmental factors that may have caused the irritation.
Conclusion
With personalised care and a gentle approach, rosacea can be managed effectively in a salon setting. Helping clients identify their triggers, soothing and calming their skin, and adopting a minimalist skincare routine can make a significant difference in the quality of their skin and their confidence. While flare-ups may still occur, these strategies provide a thoughtful foundation for maintaining healthier skin.

What is Polygel?
Polygel, also known as Acrylgel or Acrylic-gel, is a versatile nail enhancement product that combines the best qualities of UV hard gel and acrylic. This unique formula offers both flexibility and durability, making it a popular choice among nail technicians and enthusiasts alike.
Polygel is available in pre-mixed formulas, typically found in tubes or pots. While some attempt to create their own versions, I wouldn’t recommend it for best results. The application process is straightforward: Polygel has a texture similar to gum and can be easily manipulated with a brush. It remains workable until cured under a UV/LED lamp, allowing you to apply it to all five nails before hardening.
Benefits of Polygel
If you’re seeking a strong yet lightweight product, Polygel is an excellent choice. It offers numerous advantages, including:
- No Unpleasant Odour: Unlike traditional acrylics, Polygel has a much more pleasant application experience.
- Ease of Filing: Polygel is easy to file off, making maintenance simpler.
Can I Have Longer Nails with Polygel?
Absolutely! Polygel can be applied to natural nails to add strength and can also be used over nail tips or for sculpting extensions, allowing for beautiful, long nails.
How Long Do Polygel Nails Last?
Polygel nails typically last between 2 to 4 weeks, depending on your natural nail growth and adherence to proper aftercare.
Does Polygel Damage Nails?
No! Polygel will not damage your nails when applied and removed correctly, especially if you follow the recommended aftercare.
Application of Polygel
Preparing the nails for Polygel application is similar to other enhancement procedures:
- Prep the Nails: Start with a clean nail bed.
- Apply a Base Gel: Cure it under a UV/LED lamp.
- Apply Polygel: Squeeze the desired amount from the tube or pot and place it on the nail.
- Shape and Smooth: Use a brush to pat and smooth the Polygel into place.
Removal of Polygel
Removing Polygel is typically a file-off process, although this can vary by manufacturer. Here’s how to do it safely:
- File Off Excess: Use a 180-grit file to remove most of the product, being careful not to file the natural nail.
- Buff the Surface: Use a 100/180 buffer to thin out the remaining enhancement, then gently blend with a 220/280 buffer.
- Cleanse and Moisturise: Clean the nails and apply cuticle oil.
For those trained in using E-Files, this method can also be an effective removal option. If you haven't been trained, consider enrolling in our E-Filing course to enhance your skills!
